That’s partly a function of the aged current console generation where some franchises are seeing third, fourth, even fifth (and beyond) installments come out for the same console, more often then not, failing to offer significant innovation. We found it interesting then that only two days into the new year and Major Nelson (Larry Hryb, Director of Programming for Xbox Live) is spotlighting Microsoft’s presence at E3 2013....

With both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 officially unveiled, the console war is alive and well. But where the harshest battlefields will be located is still up in the air; will it be the catalogue of exclusive triple-A titles, the attitudes toward indie game development, or the hardware under the hood? According to Microsoft’s product planning director Albert Penello, consumers obsessing over discrepancies between the technical specs of the PS4 and Xbox One are wasting their time....

Microsoft was criticized for its lack of indie mentions during the Xbox One unveiling last month and followup reports that it wouldn’t let indie developers self-publish. In Minecraft, you can build pretty much anything. From giant bases to automatic farms, nothing is impossible. In terms of farms, the automatic melon and pumpkin farm is a simple contraption. Seeds will grow in front of an observer. When melons and pumpkins are fully grown, a piston will push them down into a hopper, which will empty into a chest. This farm design is completely automatic; after you build it, just sit back and watch the farm get to work!...

Lena Raine, the composer on games like Celeste and Guild Wars 2, has created three tracks for Minecraft that will be implemented in its 20W15A Java Snapshot update. The game has been focusing on adding new elements like Netherite Ore to its hellish alternate dimension the Nether, and all three tracks will be playing in locations there. Raine posted on Twitter that she is “extremely honored & excited” to announce her involvement, and will be writing a blog post with more information soon....

It’s not quite official, but Fallout 4 and Skyrim can now be played at 60FPS on Xbox Series X thanks to a brand new mod. Not just that, but they can also be played at 4k resolution - the downloadable content in question that unlocks this potential is called Uncap FPS. Weirdly enough, the mod, which comes from Smudgey5000, was actually designed for the Xbox One. It disables v-sync to get rid of the 30fps cap but this was a messy and limited workaround at the time that didn’t particularly work given the hardware’s limitations....

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, BioShock series creator Ken Levine discusses a cancelled Zelda-like project that was in development at Irrational Games. Nowadays, Ken Levine’s name is synonymous with BioShock, a first-person shooter series with mind-bending plots that has earned critical acclaim across the board. In a new teaser trailer, Iron Galaxy reveals the addition of the new Kilgore character to Killer Instinct along with plans to add character specific Ultimate finisher moves. Microsoft’s free-to play flagship franchise, Killer Instinct, has evolved quite a bit since it arrived back in 2013. The title has received a lot of post launch content which has tripled the roster and even added guest characters like Arbiter, Rash, and General RAAM....

The next installment to the Kingdom Hearts franchise came as a bit of a surprise to fans, as no one really expected Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. Fans should know ahead of time that this is not Kingdom Hearts 4, but it does provide a distinct experience that is uniquely in line with the franchise’s quirky history. Though some fans may have been skeptical about the rhythm game setup, it handles that classification surprisingly well in a way that is both familiar to veterans of the genre and newcomers alike....
