Part of why we love books is because of the way each author uniquely weaves together an unforgettable story. But as I’ve been reading and rereading old favorites in quarantine, I haven’t been able to help but notice that, sometimes, the oh-so-special Chosen One protagonist is a bit … dull … compared to the colorful cast of secondary characters that pass them by....

The CW’s live-action Powerpuff Girls is underway with the three leads having just been cast. These are Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’s Chloe Bennet, Descendants’ Dove Cameron, and Broadway star Yana Perrault. Bennet will be playing Blossom, Cameron has been cast as Bubbles, and Perrault is Buttercup. The last time that Bennet and Cameron saw each other was in Agents of SHIELD where they butted heads on opposite ends of the fight, but now, they’ll be teaming up together....

Mario’s green-clad brother Luigi has won the latest Nintendo Dream poll as the highest voted video game character readers would most like to play as. Japanese magazine Nintendo Dream recently published the results from its monthly polls. This month, the magazine posed a unique question that asked readers, “Which character would you like to play as?” And the results put Luigi right on the top. Luigi came in first place in an overwhelming victory with 124 points....

Fans of the Mafia series are used to long waits between games, with players sitting through an 8 year gap between the original title and Mafia 2. The sophomore Mafia game only received middling reviews upon release, however, with critics stating that the game delivered a spellbinding story that did not quite gel with the gameplay on offer. Microsoft has started rolling out a major update for Xbox One that implements a number of changes to the console. The biggest change in the update, and one that will likely catch the attention of gamers first, is a complete overhaul of the dashboard, which is now sleeker, with a simplified user interface. Besides making the Xbox One dashboard easier on the eyes, Microsoft’s other goal with the dashboard overhaul is to achieve improved performance so players can access the content they want as fast as possible....

From BioWare and EA, Mass Effect: Andromeda is set to hit PC and console systems beginning March 21, and earlier this week the game rolled out a companion app for its multiplayer mode, called Mass Effect: Andromeda APEX HQ. Announced on the APEX HQ website, the app will allow Andromeda players to check in on the game’s multiplayer and stay connected with the title when they’re not at their desk or near their console....

Despite mixed reviews across the board from gaming critics, Mass Effect: Andromeda has shrugged off all criticism to top the UK sales charts in its debut week. This gives Electronic Arts its first UK chart-topping title since the release of FIFA 17 late last year. For the week ending March 25, 2017, Mass Effect: Andromeda has managed to bring Ghost Recon: Wildlands’ reign at number one to an end, pushing Ubisoft’s well-received open-world title to the number two spot....

One Fallout 4 fan spends 20 hours of their life in erection of a massive tower that looms over the inhabitants of the action-RPG’s Boston Commonwealth. Thanks to Fallout 4’s allowance of would-be Vault Dwellers to customize settlements, one intrepid player has utilized the feature to construct a giant building dedicated to displaying an enormous sex joke. It’s called the Tower of Flesh, and the appropriately named YouTuber Saucy Sausage has given each of us the pleasure of gazing upon it in all its glory with the video below....

Xbox’s Game Pass is perhaps the best deal in all of gaming. For just a small fee, you can have access to hundreds of titles that rotate each month. Now that Microsoft owns Minecraft, it was unsurprising to see that the mega-popular block-building game featured during the company’s E3 2017 press conference. Along with the announcement of the Minecraft cross-platform update, developer Mojang Studios also announced the Minecraft Super Duper Graphics pack. Available for free this fall, the graphical update will give the game a 4K HDR makeover that includes “improved lighting, shadows, water effects.” It will also introduce new features including: dynamic shadows, lighting that streams through fog, movement in leaves and grass, new textures for mobs and villagers, directional lighting, edge highlighting and “more....

On Friday, Game Rant reported on possible street date violations for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. A number of customers had alleged that their local stores were selling the highly-anticipated game as early as Wednesday of last week, though no official street date break had occurred. Then on Saturday, GameStop stores in New York, Maryland, Ohia, and Pennsylvania began selling their pre-oder copies. Initial statements suggested the street-date violations were the result of an agreement between GameStop and Activision in order to protect the retailer’s pre-orders - sales that could potentially have been threatened by local game shops that were selling the game early....

It is all but confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be this year’s entry in the Call of Duty franchise. Infinity Ward, the developer behind the Modern Warfare games, has teased the game multiple times, and it seems as if all that’s left is an official announcement. In the run-up to an official announcement for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, there has been a lot of speculation and at least one previous leak about what the game may offer fans....

It’s fair to say the industry is still reeling from last year’s announcement that Warner Bros. Pictures’ entire 2021 film slate would debut simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max in a new “hybrid” release model. It meant many of this year’s biggest Hollywood releases, from Lin Manuel-Miranda’s In the Heights to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, could be watched from the comfort of fans’ own homes. Killing Eve Season 4 Episode 3 Eve has finally done what she has long seemed completely incapable of doing on Killing Eve: she has fully betrayed Villanelle by turning her in to the police. It doesn’t even seem like it was a hard choice to make. Strangely, Villanelle has become so sloppy in this odd period in her life that if it hadn’t been Eve, it may have simply been someone else, considering her picture is on the front page of the paper....

Konami might be bringing back a few treasured classics from its catalog as Castlevania and Metal Gear Rising have been trademarked in Japan. Both of these titles have laid dormant for many years as Sega, Capcom, and Bandai Namco have succeeded at bringing back their old IP. What a horrible time for a Konami property to have a curse. Gematsu reported that both trademarks for Castlevania and the cult classic Metal Gear Rising have been filed with official sources....

Lair of the Shadow Broker is the closest Mass Effect has come to feeling like a genuine action blockbuster - and that includes the third game and its descent into endless set pieces where the very fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance. Even in these moments, BioWare fails to express the same level of dramatic nuance and magnetic pacing that makes this expansion so special. I never played Lair of the Shadow Broker upon its release, with my colleagues spouting jealousy about how I’m so lucky to experience it for the first time....
